Firefighters Heat Up Calendar Competition

Twenty-six of Toronto’s finest firefighters strutted their stuff for hundreds of adoring women at the 9th Annual Toronto Fire Fighter Calendar Competition on June 14, held at the Phoenix Concert Theatre in Toronto.

The night consisted of buffed, bronzed and brave firefighters taking it off for a good cause. Ticket sales from the event raised over $14,000 to support the Fire Fighters’ Cancer Research Fund at Princess Margaret Hospital.

Although the firefighters were described as shy, their wild side shone through at the competition. The men competed for a coveted spot in the 2008 Toronto Fire Fighter Calendar. Star! Daily reporters Larysa Harapyn and Sean Gehon, along with CHUM FM's Maie Pauts and Ingrid Schumacher, judged the men in and out of their uniforms.

For Al Watterson, a third year veteran of the competition, raising money for the cause is personal. “We can’t do enough to help Princess Margaret,” said Watterson.

Of the 26 firefighters, only 14 were chosen for the 2008 calendar. The calendar will go on sale October 11, 2007 at The Bay, Zellers and Home Outfitters across the Greater Toronto Area.
