Be A Volunteer


Thank you for your interest in volunteering for The Gift of Life 5Km Walk for Leukemia. As a valued member of our team you will be contributing to a great cause as well as helping us ensure the day runs successfully!

All volunteers will be entitled to the following on the day of the walk (Please note a minimum of $25.00 in pledges is required):

  • All volunteers will receive a t-shirt, door prize ballot, free lunch, free entertainment and survival packs.
  • All volunteers receive front of the line access to food and washrooms.
  • All volunteers will receive a Gift of Life Volunteer Certificate

Volunteer Orientation

  • Volunteer Orientation will take place Thursday September 21, 2006 at 7pm at the Kortright Centre. (Please come in through the main entrance).
  • Please ensure you bring your minimum $25.00 in pledges as we will be registering you for the walk on orientation night. You will receive your t-shirt, prize ballot and overview of your volunteer area on orientation night. You community hours certificate will be given to you on the Sunday September 24, 2006 (walk day), after successful completion of volunteer service.
  • Volunteer Orientation is critical as it will outline what is expected of you. We encourage you to attend orientation! By attending orientation, you will gain insight on what is required for your volunteer area, what time you will need to be at Kortright, and also avoid the registration line-up on the day of the walk.
  • Students attending the Volunteer Orientation night will receive an additional 3 hrs towards their community service objectives.

Student Information & Volunteer Hour Guidelines

  • All students working the event will be entitled to 10 volunteer hrs that will count towards your community service objectives.
  • If you are unable to complete your shift but have worked a minimum of 2 hrs you will be entitled to 5 volunteer hours. To receive your signed certificates we have a designated Student Volunteer tent on the grounds that will be manned by adult volunteers and teachers throughout the day. Once your captains have signed off your work hours you can proceed to the volunteer tent for your certificates. Any questions pertaining to student activities throughout the day can be addressed in this area.
  • Students attending the Volunteer Orientation night will receive an additional 3 hrs towards their community service objectives.

  1. Click on the "Apply to Volunteer" button located on this page, then click on the "Pre-register" button and fill out all required information, continue creating a new user. Answer "Yes" to "Would you like to Volunteer" and continue to answer the questions.
  2. Download and print the Pledge form.
  3. You are now ready to begin collecting pledges.
  4. Bring all money and pledge forms to complete your registration on the following dates:

    If you are attending Volunteer Orientation: Thurs. Sept. 21, 2006 at 7:00pm.

    If you are not attending Volunteer Orientation: Sun. Sept.. 24, 2006 at 8:00am.
